Tanner Bates
Belts, wallets, watch straps and small leather goods from Tanner Bates, made by hand in a small Devon workshop a few miles from our base in Dartington.
Most pieces are cut from oak-bark-tanned leather, which is tanned slowly in pits for about a year. It's firm and hard-wearing at first, then softens and darkens with use, so it ages the way good shoes do. Many items are made to order, so allow a little extra time for those.
