Edward & James is two things: the new name for the shop you may know as Pediwear, and our own label of Goodyear-welted men's shoes.
Edward & James by Pediwear
Pediwear has been finding people the right pair of shoes since 1976. It began as a family-run shop, became one of the first shoe retailers in the UK to sell online in 1998, and in 2026 passed to new owners who have spent their careers in the British footwear trade. The business now trades from Dartington in Devon, under the name Edward & James.
What hasn't changed is the idea: proper shoes, from makers we know well, sold with straight advice and fair prices, and a real person on the end of the phone. You can read more about us.
The Edward & James label
Edward & James started as Pediwear's own range: classic shoes and boots, built to our specification by makers we trust, at prices that undercut the big names. Over the years that's meant working with some very good factories:
- Northamptonshire. Styles made in England, including country boots made by Cheaney, and Oxfords and chukkas from the Northamptonshire Productive Society, a co-operative founded by five shoemakers in Wollaston in 1881.
- Spain. Monk straps and loafers made for us by Berwick 1707.
- Portugal. Goodyear-welted loafers from long-established family firms.
A few of the styles in the current range are still made in England. Going forward, the range will be made in Portugal, where the best welted shoemaking now offers remarkable value.
What's next?
A whole new Edward & James range is on its way while we restart the business. We'll share more here when the first pairs arrive.
Tip: many Edward & James styles are made in limited runs. If you see your size, don't wait too long.
