About Edward & James

Edward & James, by Pediwear

Edward & James is the new name for Pediwear, a men's shoe shop that has been finding people the right pair since 1976. It began as a family-run shop, became one of the first shoe retailers in the UK to sell online in 1998, and now trades from Dartington in Devon.

The shoes are the kind Pediwear has always sold: proper, Goodyear-welted footwear, from Northampton to São João da Madeira. Cheaney, Tricker's, Sanders, Carmina and Carlos Santos, chosen for how they're made rather than how they're marketed. Most can be resoled and will last for years if they're looked after, which is why Saphir care and cedar shoe trees sit alongside them.

Why the new name

New owners, same idea. In 2026 the business passed to a team who have spent their careers in the British footwear trade, including years running an industry-leading brand in the formal sector. Edward & James keeps everything customers valued about Pediwear (the advice, the fair prices, a real person at the end of the phone) under a name that suits the shoes. And a whole new range is on its way.

How it works

  • Real advice. Decades of fitting shoes in a real shop. Unsure about a size, a last or a leather? Ask, and you'll get a straight answer.
  • Clear communication. Every order is confirmed, and tracking is emailed as soon as it ships.
  • Fair prices. Bought carefully and priced honestly: English and European shoemaking without the West End mark-up.
  • A person, not a chatbot. Call or WhatsApp +44 7468 872241, 9–5, Monday to Friday.

Belts and bags

To go with the shoes, Tanner Bates Leather makes oak-bark-tanned belts and bags by hand in a small Devon workshop.
